I’m very happy to announce that this Saturday, January 11, I will be launching a new self-directed online writing course, The 21 Day Food Writing Journey.
Writing about food might seem frivolous in this current moment, with war and wildfires raging. But this is even more of a reason why a daily writing practice can help us process our feelings, connect with our bodies, and alchemize our emotions. Food is just the entry point to examine our lives and expand our sense of self.
If you have ever taken a class from me, or followed my work, you know that I love using food stories to tap into our bigger feelings, memories, and relationships.
Food connects us to places, to our families and ancestors, to nature, and to each other. Through this carefully crafted series of writing prompts—delivered to your inbox each morning—I take you on a journey to better understand your relationship with nourishment in all areas of your life.
By recalling childhood memories, being mindful of our daily eating habits, and journaling about our inherited ways of being around food, we will connect to deeper parts of ourselves and cultivate a healthier relationship to mealtime. Through this daily writing practice, we will ignite our creativity and find new inspiration in our life.
There are so many feelings associated with food—pleasure, joy, sadness, shame, hunger, coziness, fun.
Writing about food is thus one of the most potent ways to tap into our creative energy and recall all kinds of memories we thought were lost to time. We use food as a sort of backdoor key to the inner workings of our psyche.
You have important stories to tell, and my hope is that this writing journey allows you to honor and reflect on all the places food has taken you in your life.
